In 2026-2027 the Fairhaven Program will offer a middle school class on Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This weekly class is open to students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade who want to read and think.

Charlotte Mason describes beautifully the purpose of education: “The question is not,—how much does the youth know? when he has finished his education—but how much does he care? and about how many orders of things does he care? In fact, how large is the room in which he finds his feet set?  and, therefore, how full is the life he has before him?” Our goal: to set the feet of our students in a large room.

To this end, we’ll read books like The Once and Future King by T.H. White, The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, and the stories of Wendell Berry; tell folktales and fairytales; memorize poems; solve math problems; draw; look at paintings; and learn the arts of writing and conversation.

Monthly tuition: $200 (August through May)

Registration fee: $200

Materials fee: $175 (due August 1st)

Limited scholarships are available.

The class will meet in downtown Fairhaven: 1106 Harris Ave., Suite 307. To inquire about enrollment, fill out the form below or email donald@fairhavenprogram.org or call 360-230-8012.
