We practice education by hand. We do not use screens for classwork because they are not the right tools for the job. We write papers by hand. We draw by hand. We read real books. We speak to each other face to face.

What parents of our students say
“Six months after enrolling in the Fairhaven Program, my daughter is more independent, confident, and motivated than ever. Her journaling is more creative, she is spending more time outside, and even her piano practicing seems more focused. On family walks she is always pointing out plants, sometimes sketching samples. I’m so glad we decided to invest in this opportunity for her.”
“The Fairhaven Program is truly exceptional. My son is thriving in an environment where he’s learning Ancient Greek, studying math through Euclid’s original writings (rather than traditional textbooks), and exploring a diverse range of literature. The work is challenging, and I’ve seen remarkable growth in his reading, writing, and focus over the past year—all while he genuinely enjoys the process. The small student body fosters a strong sense of community and teamwork. He has developed meaningful relationships with his peers while learning about local flora, fauna, and indigenous cultures. If you’re looking for a program where motivated students can dive into real learning without the noise of social media, pop culture, or politics, I can’t recommend the Fairhaven Program enough.”
“The Fairhaven program was just what we didn’t know we were looking for! It has been a gift to both our daughter and our entire family. Of course, we can never know exactly how one thing will lead to the next, but in the story of our daughter’s life, we count the Fairhaven Program as a most significant ‘inciting incident’ in her present season of adolescent growth and development.”

Parents often ask, who is the ideal student for the Fairhaven Program? And the answer is simple: students who want to be here. We don’t expect prior knowledge of anything on the curriculum. All we ask for is a desire to learn.
We offer our learners the two most important things in education: 1) A banquet of learning, with instruction in literature, mathematics, geography, art, history, science, public speaking, Ancient Greek, and more. 2) A group of interesting, motivated peers to learn with.
Here are a few of the things we will read and study in the coming school year:
- Homer’s Odyssey and The Journals of Lewis and Clark
- The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin and The Autobiography of Malcolm X
- Reading and drawing maps
- The history of art and the history of American place names
- Euclid’s geometry and non-Euclidean geometry
- Essay writing and public speaking
- The art of conversation
All without screens or politics.
We meet Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at our cozy, book-filled office in downtown Fairhaven. Why only two days? Because teenagers shouldn’t be stuck in classrooms all week. They should be hiking, sailing, planting gardens, starting businesses, going on adventures, and playing music. We want them to have the time, independence, and freedom to become adults.
If your teen longs for an intellectual adventure with thoughtful friends, come join us!
